Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, therapy can be highly effective. Research shows that therapy helps many people improve their mental health, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and achieve personal goals. The effectiveness of therapy depends on several factors, including the therapist’s expertise, the therapeutic methods used, the therapeutic relationship and the individual’s willingness to engage in the process. At Light Within Counseling, we utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Brainspotting and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address a variety of issues. Many clients experience significant improvements in their well-being and relationships through consistent and committed participation in therapy.

As a private pay therapist, I do not directly bill insurance companies. However, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Therapy is a valuable investment in your mental health and overall well-being. While we do not accept insurance at Light Within Counseling, we believe in providing high-quality, personalized care tailored to each client’s unique needs. The cost of therapy reflects the expertise and dedication of our therapists, the individualized treatment plans, and the support you receive throughout your journey. Think of therapy as an investment in your long-term happiness and emotional well-being. Prioritizing your mental health can lead to profound and lasting positive changes in your life. You are worth this investment in yourself.

Private pay therapy refers to therapy services that are paid for directly by the client, without involving insurance companies. This approach offers more flexibility in choosing a therapist and the type of therapy received. Clients can request a superbill to submit to their insurance company for potential reimbursement and work directly with their insurance company regarding coverage and reimbursement.

I accept health savings cards, credit cards, debit cards all via IVY (my payment system). I also accept cash, check, Zelle or Venmo payments for therapy services.

I may be able offer sliding scale fees based on a client’s income and ability to pay. It’s recommended to inquire about sliding scale options directly with the therapist.

The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs and treatment goals. Most people start weekly or biweekly and step down as needed. We can discuss a schedule that works best for you during our initial consultation.

During the first session, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you may have. This session is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit for working together. Your therapist will guide the conversation with thoughtful questions to gain a comprehensive understanding of your situation. Much like a visit to a medical doctor, this first session is about listening attentively to your needs to provide the most effective treatment.

Yes, therapy is confidential, and your privacy is protected by law. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality, which are covered in my informed consent paperwork and will be discussed during our first session. These exceptions typically include situations involving harm to yourself or others, abuse or neglect of a child, elderly, or dependent adult, and court orders. If you have questions or concerns regarding this, we can discuss it during our first session.

Once you’ve reached out to us via phone or email, we’ll provide you with the necessary intake paperwork, which we ask you to complete before your first session to ensure a smooth start to your therapeutic journey. After our initial contact, I will send you a follow up email with instructions on how to access the intake paperwork, how to handle payment for the session, my office address, and more.

You can schedule an appointment by contacting me directly via email (info@lightwithinlmft.org), text or call (916-990-1214). I will do my best to accommodate your scheduling preferences if I have the availability in my schedule.

The number of visits that are appropriate in your case, and the estimated cost for those services, depends on your needs and what you agree to in consultation with your therapist. You are entitled to disagree with any recommendations made to you concerning your treatment and you may discontinue treatment at any time. If the fee for a 50-minute therapy visit (in-person or via telehealth) is $190. Most clients will attend one therapy visit per week, butthe frequency of psychotherapy visits that are appropriate in your case may be more or less than once perweek, depending upon your needs.
